Omaha Halloween Events and Safety Reminders

If you plan on trick or treating or going to any Omaha Halloween events, then safety is one of the most important things to keep in mind. The safety of trick-or-treaters and Halloween event guests should be the first thing on your Halloween party checklist. If not, many types of accidents could happen and affect the safety of you and others wanting to celebrate Halloween.

Omaha Halloween Events and Safety Reminders

Below are a few of our favorite Omaha Halloween events and safety reminders you should remember for any large or small Halloween event.

Keep Emergency Numbers Handy

Nobody intends for things to go wrong at a party or event, but they can happen. Accidents can happen due to a lot of different things, from dropped drink glasses to a Halloween decoration falling down on someone.

Emergency numbers are important to have handy should any type of accident occur. Make sure they are displayed in a prominent place that’s easy to access, and where someone can call if there is a need for an ambulance, poison control, or the fire department.

Have a First Aid-Kit Nearby

While emergency numbers are important, they don’t ensure the immediate safety of everyone at the party for minor cuts, burns, and bruises. Update your first-aid kit to include basics such as burn gel, ice packs, bandages, and other standard first-aid items.

At the time of the event, make sure that more than one responsible adult knows where the first-aid kit is.

Any emergency that isn’t covered by your basic first-aid kit, means that you should call the emergency numbers for professional help.

Supervision, Even For Adults

Supervision is vital for any type of Halloween event, including trick-or-treating and parties. Don’t think that supervision is just meant for children, either. Adults can often use supervision too, especially when most of the adults at a party or event want to consume alcoholic beverages.

Supervision doesn’t mean babysitting the party. Instead, supervising means making sure that things are flowing as smoothly as possible for the entire night.

The adults in charge of the event should remain responsible at all times.

Lock Up The Dangerous Belongings

A lot can be said for locking up valuables before an event. It is also important to make sure there are no dangerous items on full display. If you have an impressive sword collection or the keys to a safe with guns in it, a party is not the time to display any of it.

Accidents happen and are more likely when anything that can be classified as deliberately dangerous is in full view of (or accessible by) your guests.

Leave Nothing Unattended

Things that look safe can still become dangerous when they are left alone. Lit candles are the first obvious example. However, there are many cool Halloween props that can turn into weapons.

Leave nothing unattended during a Halloween party, and make sure that the supervising adults are keeping a close eye on guests and their belongings – even things that look absolutely harmless, such as a heavy display or prop.

Keep Dangerous Costume Accessories at Home

Again, obvious items aren’t the only thing that can present a risk at a party. Anything can turn into something dangerous if it gets in the wrong hands.

If your event is the kind of party that encourages Halloween costumes, make sure that nobody shows up with dangerous accessories. For example, make sure everyone understands the no weapons rule. You might be surprised at what some people will show up with at a party! Don’t be caught off guard and set the ground rules from the start.

Dangerous Decoration 101

Decorations can present a disaster, especially at the point of the party when guests are paying more attention to the festivities than to what they might bump into.

Make sure that no decoration is heavy enough (or badly placed enough) to fall on a guest and cause an emergency room visit.
