Sore Throat Natural Cure

Most people experience a sore throat from time to time. Sore throats can be caused by overuse or straining your vocal cords, environmental factors like dry heated air or pollens, and micro-organisms like viruses and bacteria.

The discomfort of a sore throat can be eased by a variety of natural treatments, as well as products available over-the-counter at the pharmacy, like lozenges and sprays.

Sore Throat Natural Treatment

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide may be used as a mouth rinse to comfort a sore throat. Gargling with this antiseptic kills germs in the mouth and throat which may be causing inflammation and pain. Be sure to not swallow the hydrogen peroxide, though, and rinse your mouth afterward with fresh water.

Honey

Honey is a traditional remedy for relieving sore throat. Mixed with tea or eaten on its own, honey soothes the throat and helps reduce coughing.

Salt Water

Gargling with salt water is another option to relieve pain and break down secretions. A half teaspoon of salt mixed in a glass of warm water can be gargled every three hours or so.

Oil

Peppermint oil can be diluted with carrier oils (such as olive oil) and used in sprays to provide relief.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Using an apple cider vinegar gargle provides antibacterial effects. Mix two tablespoons of the cider in a cup of water and gargle one or twice an hour.

Always remember that severe or prolonged sore throat should be evaluated by a medical professional. Sore throats accompanied by high fever and swollen tonsils should be treated at your primary care or urgent care clinic.
